Well here's a little recap of my trip to MILWAUKEE last weekend to cover PSU women's basketball......the bus ride was a pain, over 26 hours on a bus in one weekend, not to mention with old people....leaving at 5 am was not so cool though. Please read my humorous column from Monday's paper, I think it captures the essence of the bus ride up.......but we did get to have some cool experiences like going past Notre Dame, changing time zones for the first time, seeing Comiskey Park and Chicago..... in Milwaukee we caught a glimpse of Miller Park (home of the Brewers), the Bradley Center (home of the Bucks), Marquette University, the US Cellular Arena (home of Marquette), PLUS we got Kelly Mazzante-style t-shirts, and got to cover a major sporting upset from courtside, ALMOST saw a huge upset of one of the best all-time women's college basketball teams, and attend a big-time press conference, visited some of Milwaukee's finest bars, had some free meals, wrote a total of 7 stories and 2 follow-ups, bonded with my buddy The Rick, and won praise and admiration from the rest of the Collegian staff (well, maybe)............anyway, overall it was a great weekend. Here are some pics for your enjoyment:

Here's the view I had on the bus......with old people......for 26 hours.

Our hotel, The Hilton of Milwaukee

The lobby.

This sign welcomed us.

The view of downtown Milwaukee from our hotel room, on the 20th floor

The Rick.

We tried to get in here, but couldn't......

....so instead we ended up here

Shiny.

Get this, there was a waterpark INSIDE our hotel ......good thing we didn't go in though, we heard that a kid crapped in the pool and it had to be evacuated.

Downtown Milwaukee.

What is it?

The Rick, taking a picture of me, taking a picture of The Rick, taking a picture of me..........

The US Cellular Arena, home of the Marquette University basketball teams and site of the 2002 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament Mideast Regional Semi-Finals....

Check out these Snoop Dogg style suits, they had em for sale at some place called Johnnie Walker's, along with ladies' wigs....

Here's my view from courtside, I had to sneak this pic, very unprofessional....

A phat building.

INDIANA JUST BEAT DUKE, daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn hahahaha.

I have news about the OZZFEST 2002.....here's the "official" lineup:

Main Stage:
OZZY OSBOURNE
SYSTEM OF A DOWN
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE / CHRIS CORNELL (no name yet)
P.O.D.
DROWNING POOL
ADEMA
ZAKK WYLDE'S BLACK LABEL SOCIETY

Second/Third Stage:
ROB ZOMBIE
MESHUGGAH
APEX THEORY
LOSTPROPHETS
PULSE ULTRA
NEUROTICA

Of course I'd love to see Ozzy......but System wasnt that great last time I saw them...the Rage/Cornell thing really intrigues me....BLS was pretty good last year......Zombie probably puts on a good show......Meshuggah rules.......Drowning Pool, Adema, and Lostprophets blow chunks.........soooo I dont know. Maybe I'll just wait for the Rage/Cornell headlining tour that's sure to follow. Unless they happen to add Tool and/or Slayer, from the UK Ozzfest......Decisions, decisions. I'll have to think about it....here are the dates I'd consider attending:

Jul. 12 - Camden, NJ @ Tweeter Center at the Waterfront
Jul. 19 - Holmdel, NJ @ PNC Bank Arts Center

One thing I've been forgetting about lately......when I went to that Bleeding Ground show over spring break I had the pleasure of meeting a former TV child star.....his name is Peter and he was playing in the band Torrential Downpour, which was pretty tight....anyway, he played the fat white kid Peter from the Cosby Show. I took some digital pics of him but they didnt come out....it was definitely him though, I did my research, I even watched like 100 episodes of Cosby Show on Nick at Nite, they had a marathon over break. Ah, yet another brush with greatness.

Well the big day is here tomorrow, my trip to Milwaukee for the big PSU - UConn game. Our bus leaves at the butt-crack of dawn tomorrow, 6 a.m. Should be a good time, all my preparations have been made, now its just time to enjoy some high-quality women's bball action and write, write, write. Be sure to check out the game on ESPN Saturday at 12:00 noon EST, live from the U.S. Cellular Arena, maybe you'll even catch a glimpse of me. If the team loses I'll be returning Sunday, but if they somehow pull out the upset i'll be sticking around to watch them take on either Kansas or Old Dominion on Monday evening (7:30 on ESPN 2).

In my environmental philosophy class today some chick was talking about how she has this giant houseplant in her apartment and she talks to it daily and has a relationship with it and whatnot, it even has a name but she wouldn't divulge it, I guess she didnt want to make an ass of herself....ooops, too late.

There will be no Metal Machine this evening with the Madman, sorry to anyone who was looking forward to it....but have no fear, I'll be back next week with my very special "all-covers" edition, so stay tuned..

Gotta schedule tonight for the Fall semester next year, I can't believe I'm going to be a senior already, only need 35 credits to graduate....I have to take some shitty Comm classes and one more 400 level philosophy class, but other than that just a bunch of easy electives (ie movie watching, theater, etc etc). Alright enough babbling I've gotta go figure out the rest of my schedule and prepare for WISCONSIN, wish me luck.......peace.

Great news......I'm headed to Milwaukee, Wisconsin this weekend to cover the Penn State - Connecticut NCAA Tournament game for the Daily Collegian! At first I didn't think I'd be going, only my colleauge The Rick was being sent, but today I found out that because of monetary considerations they were sending him by bus, and that I could go also. The bad news is, we're taking a bus. I don't know how long the bus ride is exactly, im estimating its over 10 hours at least, it also leaves at 6 a.m. on Friday....I've outlined our trip below. Pretty crazy but it should be a pretty cool experience, I've never been out west before, I don't really know what's in Wisconsin other than cheese, but it should be fun times. I do know that Rick and I will be sure to put the SIN in Wisconsin (corny joke courtesy of Mike Antenucci)....I'll have more about this situation soon as details become available.

In other news, The Rangers acquired Edmonton defenseman and U.S. Olympian Tom Poti and forward Rem Murray in exchange for Mike York and a fourth-round draft pick....I told you they always give up their talented young players didn't I? York is a real talented player who I like and its a shame they had to give him up, they should have held on to him. I guarantee you that either York or Manny Malhotra, if not both, will go on to have good careers elsewhere. But this move does shore up their defensive corps, which has been horrid this season...Poti is young and has some potential, so hopefully it'll turn out good. Playoffs here we come.

My friends in the band Bleeding Ground have changed their name to Black Dahlia because of some other bands with similar names. This is pretty phat though, they will have a new website coming shortly, which I'll share with you as soon as its available. I'd also like to announce that they'll be taking part in the annual Radford University Quadfest on April 20th (That's right, 4/20) in Radford, Virginia....I'll do my best to get down there for the show, and you should too.

I've got a fun-filled night of TV watching ahead of me.....check out the following shows this evening:

Series premiere of Andy Richter Controls the Universe (8:30, Fox)
Smallville (9:00, WB)
The Osbournes (10:30, MTV)

And finally........earlier today while dozing off in my incredibly boring Comm class, the following thought came to me: probably one of the biggest disappointments of my life was the final episode of ALF. Do you remember this? In that episode, it was supposed to be a season-ending cliffhanger in which Alf's fellow aliens from Melmac came down to Earth. I remember this as clear as day, at the very end he was standing outside staring up at the sky into the bright lights of a spaceship, and it was meant to be continued next season.......well, lo and behold, THERE WAS NO NEXT SEASON! Alf was cancelled and we never got to find out what happened with the spacecraft. This left a gaping hole inside me, and I was scarred for quite a while. Thinking about it today kinda upset me, but then, thanks to the wonders of the Internet, I remembered a disappointing TV-movie entitled Project: Alf, made in 1996, which actually explains that Alf was captured by some alien task force.......pretty lame, but I guess its better than nothing. Now seeing him in those corny 10-10-220 commercials with Terry Bradshaw (sometimes I get the two of them confused) makes me long for the days of classic Alf.

NICE! The Rangers just got Pavel Bure from Florida in exchange for Filip Novak, Igor Ulanov, and a first round pick in 2002. I heard the rumors that the Panthers wanted Mike York in the deal, but I'm glad that after giving up 21-year-old Manny Malhotra last week for 31-year-old Martin Rucinsky that NY didn't drop the ball yet again in one of their trading deadline moves and give up a young talent for an aging superstar...this time they got it right. Bure will definitely spark the Rangers to their first playoff appearance in four years (watch out Devils) even though he's having an off year so far......in a year or two I'll probably end up booing him for his attitude and waning skills but in the meantime hes a good addition to get them over the hump, for now.

Had a pretty good weekend, some fun times at my buddy The Rick's on Saturday night....thanks to Jen and Brittany for also coming along. I also watched the Penn State women's bball team win two games in the first and second round of the NCAA Tournament at home. Kelly Mazzante, the nation's leading scorer and an All-American, set a Big Ten single-season scoring record and made some outstanding plays this weekend. Read my article about her here. I'll have an update about the Lady Lions' upcoming Sweet 16 matchup soon.

Earlier today on I watched two highly entertaining shows on E! I caught an intriguing Mysteries and Scandals special about the life of Vivian Vance (Ethel Mertz from I Love Lucy)....it was hosted by AJ Benza (formerly of the Howard Stern Show) who spent most of the show in a steamy dark alleyway dressed in a suit, a la Unsolved Mysteries.....before that, I saw a phat profile of Soliel Moon Frye, who played Punky Brewster. Man what a great afternoon of TV.
