step into JAY'S WORLD...
Saturday, April 27, 2002
Check out my girlfriend Jen's site.......youll find pics from my last radio show of the year the other night, youll find them most entertaining, especially the one of me and the Cosmic Joker..........youll also find pics from the Blue White Game, as well as me and Spruck covering softball last weekend.....

Collegian picnic tomorrow, should be good times.......then I'm headed back to Jersey for a few days. I return to State College on Tuesday and then its only a matter of time before this year is officially over.

Aaaaaaand the Flyers are out of the playoffs in the first round, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Sixers are next......Im loving this

In the span of a week, the world has lost two great musicians and great human beings.......first Layne Staley and now Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes of TLC.......RIP Left Eye, we will miss your beautiful smile and your super talent. All I have to say is, don't go chasin waterfalls....

My friend Mark thinks her ex-lover, NFL star Andre Rison, could be involved, and i think he may be on to something.....I mean she did burn down his mansion after all, plus she died in Honduras of all places....and there were like six people in the car and she was the only one who died........curious, if you ask me...

On a less somber note, I did my final radio show of the year last night and had a blast......I want to thank my special guests Mike "Nutso" Heid and Rick "The Rick" Burchfield, as well as the Cosmic Joker and the Carnivore for joining me....and very special thanks go out to Jen "Charlotte the Harlot" Zak for taking time out of her studies to join me, as well as Chris "Cancer Man" Rajotte for sitting with me the entire four hours, you guys rock. Jen got some great pictures from the night and they will be posted very shortly.

Many thanks to all my listeners this year for making my show so special....I hope you all dont go into Madman withdrawl over the summer, but have no fear, I will return next year, 1 to 3 am Thursdays yet again, so I hope you will all join me once again, I'm looking forward to it.

I just want to plug two new outstanding cds.....Killswitch Engage's "Alive or Just Breathing" and Soilwork's "Natural Born Chaos"...check those out, great stuff. And be on the lookout for the new Superjoint Ritual (featuring Phil from Pantera), it drops in late May and it should be excellent.

Well classes are done, all I have left is one final exam on Wednesday.......I simply cannot wait for summer.

In other news, my mom informed me that The Osbournes is her new favorite show.......thats right, Ozzy mania is gripping the country right now, and even my mom is in on it. Good stuff, good stuff.

Also, the other day I found out that the graduation requirement for Comm majors has changed from 130 credits to 120 credits.......when I heard this I was ecstatic. It means I dont have to take two summer classes this summer at Mercer County Community College as I was planning........it also means I only need 10 credits in my final semester next year (actually 12 to be a full-time student)......this is outstanding news.

Here's a little snippet of an email I got from my professor......he wasn't callin me out or anything, he sent one to everyone in response to a self-evaluation we had to do today to help him come up with our grade for the year...check it out...

...For the last three or so weeks, you have been present in class but, from outward appearances, often distracted. I do not want either to misread this or to weight it too heavily. At least one class you were writing something other than notes; another you were not obviously with the flow of discussion. But you have been for the most part an attentive (hence, active) but quiet participant, but a participant nonetheless.

Haha, pretty funny........he caught me doodling last week, it was the only thing I could do to keep from fallin asleep.

Check out this article in today's Daily Collegian sports page, written by my friend Chris Korman. It's about former PSU QB Matt Senneca, who recently decided to forego his senior season......its a really good article, and after all the crap Senneca got last year its pretty interesting to hear things from the other side...

In memory of the recently-deceased Layne Staley, I've recommended some of my favorite AIC tunes, check them out:

Bleed the Freak
Again
Damn That River
Rain When I Die
Down in a Hole
Angry Chair
Shame In You
Would?
Nutshell (unplugged)
Brother (unplugged)
Over Now (unplugged)

Be sure to check out their whole catalog of albums, particularly Dirt and MTV Unplugged (one of my all-time favorite cds)

The week is winding down, I'm almost out of here for the year. I'm pretty much done at the collegian for the year, check out two of my latest articles:
This one is about the Penn State players chosen in the NFL Draft over the weekend, and
This one is a column, a somewhat humorous look back at the home softball season

All I've got left is a paper due Friday (that's pretty much finished already) and a Philosophy test tomorrow.......This Saturday is the annual Collegian picnic, that should be fun, then later that day I'm goin home. Jen and I are comin back up on Tuesday to take care of some dumb exams (I only have one...possibly two) and then we are out of here for the year!

Tomorrow night is my final radio show of the year (1 - 3 am) so be sure to tune in, I'm planning on having alot of fun, playing some of my favorite tunes, and I'll have at least one special guest, so dont miss out.

RIP Layne Staley, the lead singer of Alice in Chains......cant say I didn't see this one comin, the guys been a heroin addict forever, but still its a pretty unfortunate loss, just check out how many of today's rock singers are just cheap knockoffs that copy his voice....

NFL Draft's goin on right now, the Giants took former Miami TE Jeremy Shockey with their first round pick.....wow, a Giants TE that can catch passes, this is gonna take them back to the Mark Bavaro days of the 80s....maybe. Now I'm just waitin to see where the Penn State players get taken, so I can write a story about it....I have a feeling I might be waiting for a while...

Ive had a complaint about lack of updates so I guess it's about time (this ones for you Matt).......

Been pretty busy lately, I had to do a gay 25 minute presentation earlier this week about URBAN SPRAWL, it was pretty horrible...I have a bunch of eco-nerds in my class and they must have thought I was so dumb. My professor didn't even show up, he had it videotaped instead.....I guess he knew what to expect.

I also had to work on several articles this week, including two on football. So you may find these more interesting than my usual softball coverage.
The first is a pretty big feature on this kid Michael Robinson, hes the PSU backup quarterback this year, and he has been called the next Michael Vick, it came out pretty good so check it out. It's also in the special Collegian Magazine Blue-White Game issue, available now!
The second is a story about this weekend's upcoming NFL Draft and former PSU players' chances (or lack thereof)....check it out. I'll have a follow up or two hopefully next week after we see who gets chosen, where, and by whom.

Despite this overwhelming football coverage, I have an announcement to make: I will NOT be covering football for the Collegian next semester as I had hoped. I found out two weeks ago but I'm pretty much just coming to terms with it now and able to share it with the public. I was pretty close but unfortunately I didn't make the cut. It's alright, instead I'll most likely be working as a night sports editor, which is cool......I wanted the experience anyway cuz I'm thinking of going into that down the line as a career, plus I get to rip other people's writing, so that should be fun.

Anyway, this weekend I'm lookin forward to the aforementioned Blue-White Game, its an annual scrimmage we have here at PSU in the spring, its free and at Beaver Stadium, it should be alot of fun. It draws like 50,000 people usually, making it one of the largest such football scrimmages in the country. I am so psyched for next season too, there's like a record 8 home games, so all my friends have no excuse but to come up for a game.....we're playing Nebraska under the lights on September 14, that should be huge. I'm predicting big things for this team next year, we'll make a pretty big bowl game too.....its about damn time.

I'll also be attending about 500 softball games this weekend too (well not really, just 4)......I'm just hoping for some rain.

Last night I had a pretty good free meal, courtesy of the three Collegian men's basketball writers. Us three women's writers had a bet with those guys as to which team would win more games this season....we even spotted them 8 and a half games, and they still lost, in fact we destroyed them. So last night's dinner was even sweeter.

Last night I also pulled double duty on my radio show, I filled in for the Annihilator from 11pm to 1 am and then did my regular shift, 1-3....thats right, 4 hours of the Metal Machine with the Madman. It was pretty fun, although there were some computer malfunctions early on for those listening via internet, then I found out my cassette didnt record, so i only got about 5 minutes of the show on tape....let's just say I was supremely pissed. Thanks to all those who listened though, and attempted to listen. Next week will be my final show of the year so please don't miss out.

Finally, I have some song and album recommendations. Check out the latest DOWN cd, entitled Down II......Down is the sideband of Phil Anselmo from Pantera, but their music is more of a Black Sabbath-meets-southern rock type stuff.....highly recommended. I also came across a band called Dew Scented, their latest album Inwards is pretty heavy stuff, give it a listen. And finally, Spitfire Records has put out three awesome albums lately.....Black Label Society's 1919 Eternal, Pissing Razors' Where We Come From, and Pro-Pain's Shreds of Dignity.......all of those are great, I never really heard Pro-Pain until recently but that cd is good stuff, they sound like Hatebreed but with solo's....check all of those out.

Now my world famous song recommendations:

1. Demons & Wizards - "Poor Man's Crusade"
2. Public Enemy - "She Watch Channel Zero?!" (featuring a Slayer sample!!)
3. Soilwork - "Mindfields"
4. Lionel Richie - "Sail On"
5. Drive By Truckers - "Let There Be Rock"
6. Pro-Pain - "Casualties of War"
7. Outkast - "Humble Mumble"
8. Pharcyde - "Oh Shit"
9. Black Label Society - "Bridge to Cross"
10. Nevermore - "Believe in Nothing"

PS - One week of classes left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Had a pretty cool time at Movin On earlier, thats the free concert we have here at PSU every year......it was pretty fun, the rain cleared up luckily but it was still pretty muddy out, it looked like a mini Woodstock. The only band we checked out was Pharcyde, they were pretty dope.......Jen and I got some nice pics, check them out at her site. We didnt feel like staying for Jimmy Eat World, yeah I know, what were we thinkin?

It was beautiful outside today.....Jen and I enjoyed a walk to the park and a football catch, we even went past JoePa's house......now I'm totally unmotivated to do any school-related work. Thanks, Mother Nature, thanks alot....

Here's a little music news for everyone, courtesy Blabbermouth.net....

The Osbournes, MTV's unscripted sitcom starring Ozzy Osbourne and his family, has been picked up for a second season, according to a report filed by the TV show Extra. In related news, fans who have been wondering why Ozzy's hands tremble so much may find some consolation in the fact that the condition is a possible side effect of 's anti-psychotic medication, according to the same report.

The Osbournes is reportedly the most successful series in MTV history, with over six million viewers tuning in every week to see the latest shenanigans from the Osbourne household. The show, which has been receiving rave reviews in such publications as Time, had previously had 13 episodes purchased by MTV for future broadcast as part of the series' first season.

OZZY OSBOURNE/BLACK LABEL SOCIETY guitarist Zakk Wylde on the prospect of auditioning for the vacant guitarist slot in LIMP BIZKIT (as quoted by Music's Bottom Line):

When that came to the LA Guitar Center, I was hanging out with [SLAYER guitarist] Kerry King. We were like, 'Why don't we go down there and try out?' Now, imagine that. Me with my big beard and Kerry with his bald, tattooed head in a line with a bunch of wannabe losers to play in a band that features no talent at all now that [ex-LB axeman] Wes [Borland] left. All I wanted to do was get in there. If I would have, I would have had to lay an ass-whoopin' on that f*cking no-talent Fred Durst that he wouldn't soon forget. That band is such an embarrassment. To call that metal is just disgusting. I know that Wes left that band because he knew that he'd made his money and couldn't take further embarrassment of being associated with such trash. Those guys just suck.

Finally, check out robotfrank.com (courtesy E SLAVIN) for some laughs..........

Been pretty busy, havent had a whole lot of time to update.......and I'll pretty much be busy from now until the last day of classes. I've had mad work to do, such as a presentation thats due on Tuesday, several football, basketball and softball articles over the course of a week or two, plus some other gay stuff......

This weekend should be cool though (besides all the crap I have to do)...luckily there arent a ton of home softball games like last weekend. There's also Movin' On this Saturday....thats the annual free PSU all-day concert....not a stellar lineup really, for me anyway (Jimmy Eat World, Pete Yorn, Lucky Boys Confusion, etc) but I am lookin forward to seeing Pharcyde, they're pretty cool....

Check this out, a tribute to my main man Grimace....

I spent most of my weekend doing one of three things: a) watching softball, b) blowing my nose, or c) sleeping.........the softball home schedule is in full swing and I had to watch four games this weekend in the freezing cold......it didnt help that I was sick either, I pretty much felt crappy the whole time and I'm still not over it........other than that, Jen and I watched two movies, K-Pax (which was, eh, alright) and Memento (which was excellent, I recommend this one.....so many twists and turns, I've gotta see it again to figure it all out)......

Only 14 days of classes left........is it summer yet?
