step into JAY'S WORLD...

Something really weird happened the other day.......my brother and I were in the living room and we had the TV on in the other room, the Fresh Prince was about to come on......we were listenin to the classic theme song when all the sudden Will busted out with a whole different verse to his rap that I never heard before. It was something about rich people or somethin like that.......we looked at each other with shock and ran into the other room, and saw that the opening montage was even changed, there was like a different scene to go along with the different words..........man it was so strange, it was like an out-of-body experience, I'm not even sure if it was real or all just a crazy dream.....

Check out this nifty pic Ed made, its from his trip to a Mets game at Shea Stadium. Cool shit.

Well I'm back from my vacation in Ocean City, Maryland now.........I think we all had a great time, I know I did, it was relaxing.....the weather could have been better a few days but still it was a memorable trip and a nice break. Now its back to work for a few weeks, then its off to school for my senior year, can't wait. Jen will be posting some great OC pics in the near future so stay tuned.

In other news, I beat Medal of Honor: Frontline for Playstation 2 earlier today (with the help of some cheat codes supplied by Jen's bro Ryan)...great game, i suggest you check it out.

Finally, congratulations are in order for Mr. Lance Armstrong for winning his fourth-consecutive Tour de France.......what a great athlete, and a true sports hero.

I've been pretty busy lately, putting in mad hours at the bike shop and with the paper, covering the District 12 10-year old little league all-star tournament......the games haven't been so bad lately, just the fact that there's two a night, they get done at about 10:30 pm and I have to be back at the office and have a story in at 11 to make the paper's first edition.....the good news is, there's only one night left (tonight) and then....

Vacation! Thats right, me, Jen and my family is heading down to Ocean City, Md. for a week of relaxation......can't wait.

Don't forget, the Black Dahlia show is tonight in Brooklyn.......unfortunately I can't make it because of work, but the rest of you have no excuses. Sorry guys, I know you'll still put on a kick-ass show, and I won't miss the next one.

Need your lawn cut? Try Meg Greene's Landscaping Services Inc.....reasonable prices for quality lawn care, you can't beat it.

Please check out the pics Jen and I took on our trip to NYC on Monday, there are some real good ones and there's even some narration to tell you all about the trip........go there now.

Good news for cats, theres a new TV show just for them...............just another reason why this country is doomed.

Alright I gotta pack.........peace.

Very special birthday wishes for Jen, who turned the big 1-9 yesterday.........happy birthday chief! :)

To celebrate, we ventured to NYC along with the Zak family......we had a pretty good time being tour guides, plenty of highlights including the Central Park Zoo and more, plenty of pics were taken, I'll have more to say when Jen gets them online....

I also got Jen tix for the Warped Tour next month as one of her presents, featuring bands like New Found Glory, Reel Big Fish, MXPX, NoFX, Mighty Mighty Bosstones and others that she likes.......should be a good one, hopefully she'll enjoy it.

Speaking of concerts, its time for another....

***CONCERT REVIEW***

Who: DOWN
When: July 14th, 2002
Where: Birch Hill Nite Club, Old Bridge NJ
Attendees: Me, Mike

Wow. In case you don't know, Down is a band fronted by Phillip Anselmo of Pantera...it also features Rex Brown (Pantera) on bass, Kirk Windstein (Crowbar) and Pepper Keenan (Corrosion of Conformity) on guitars and Jimmy Bower (COC/EyeHateGod) on drums....they started out as a little side project but now they've become a big success, Phil seems to have put Pantera on hold as they put out their second album "Down II" and went on tour with the Ozzfest............anyway, the band is very much influenced by classic and southern rock as well as metal. This was evident in the hour-long video they forced us to watch before the concert started, I admit it was pretty damn cool as it featured rare live performances of Black Sabbath, Kiss, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jimmy Hendrix, Slayer and Led Zeppelin just to name a few, as well as home video outtakes of the band passed out drunk.....still, it was a pain in the ass, according to the tickets the show started at 7, but Down didn't take the stage until about 9:30. It was worth the wait though, because they were awesome. There was no headlining band to waste our time, so that was good. Then it started with a little video montage of the band smoking joints and jamming as Sabbath's epic "Supertzar" from the Paranoid album played in the background.......and then they began. This band is extremely heavy, it was almost as loud as a Pantera concert and that's saying something.....I think my ears are still ringing. Phil kept his usual drunken rants to a minimum, except for a few mutterings of "hail Satan!" and this gem: "I ain't never owned a computer....f*** all that s***. He didn't even mention Charles Manson, or any boxing matches. Anyway, the band ripped through some heavy tunes from their new album ("Lysergik Funeral Procession", "There's Something on My Side," "The Seed") and some good ones from the first album ("Temptation's Wings," "Lifer," "Stone the Crow").......they kind of lost me with a drawn-out jam version of "Learn From This Mistake", and there was no Sabbath cover as me and Mike hoped for. But all in all, they were great.......the encore of "Bury Me in Smoke" was my highlight. Great band, great concert, check out their two albums and check them out on tour, preferrably a headlining date......if not you can check them out on the second stage of the overpriced Ozzfest.

Damn I wrote alot.

Finally, check out the latest additions to my guestbook...Jen put a nifty picture of me on there, and The Rick left me this heartfelt post:

Jay is the best and most influential Collegian writer of all time. No one on staff has such an in-depth site or cute girlfriend (props going out to Jen)! Actually, he is the only one on sports staff with a girlfriend...

Well, either way Jay is great and Penn State will never be the same after a full year with the two of us tearing up down town. Milwaukee style baby. Keep laying down the beats Jay.

NOTE: TOMORROW IS MY GIRLFRIEND JEN'S BIRTHDAY SO Y'ALL BETTER BUY PRESENTS OR AT LEAST SEND A LAME E-CARD TO JENIBABE83@AOL.COM........that is all.

I've been hooked on this game Medal of Honor - Frontline for the ol' PS2 (well, my brother's ol' PS2).....normally I'm not a big video gamer, but this is perhaps my favorite game since the classic NHL '95 for Sega Genesis......its freakin good, its so real it brings me back to my days as a paratrooper in Normandy, 177st squadron.......anyway, check out that game if you're lucky enough to own a PS2 (or at least know someone who does).

Here's another plug, check out the new Red Hot Chili Peppers cd By the Way.........its quite a surprise, not their usual fare, I guess they've really matured or at least want to distance themselves from the "rap-rock" monster they helped create.........but this cd is pretty damn good, its mellow, its melodic, and Anthony Kiedis' voice sounds better than ever. As mike remarked, "it sounds like a younger band." Serious consideration for my top 10 of the year. Speaking of which, I might update my cd reviews section sometime soon................maybe.

Went to Americana Diner with Ed, Mike and Jen last night........man that place beats Golden Dawn by a mile, its so upscale and yet affordable....check it out if youre ever in the East Windsor, NJ area.

Well I'm gonna finish watching GI Joe the Movie on DVD now.........its awesome, it features the introduction of Sgt. Slaughter as a GI Joe, its even got cool special features like all those public service announcments ("you shouldn't talk to strangers, Timmy........now you know, and knowing is half the battle!"). Alright, peace.

I'll leave you with more notes from the guestbook:

You should check out the movie Mothman Prophecies, now out on video and DVD....me and Jen rented it last night, its quite a thriller....ive never been a big Richard Gere fan but its pretty good, its different, and its based on true events that happened in West Virginia in the 60s, some creepy shit and not your typical monster/ghost movie........also, the cinematography is really good. Give it a try.

I'm going to see Down tomorrow with my bud Mike........should be a good show.

That is all.

Thanks Joyce, I appreciate it, and give your girls my best wishes.....

In other news, I've been working my butt off at the office, overtime and all that, its been pretty hectic but now I have the next four days off to relax......then four days of work.......and then vacation in Ocean City Maryland with Jen and the fam, which should be excellent.

Hey how about that All-Star game fiasco the other night? What a load of crap that was, I understand how they ran out of pitchers but there really should have been some kind of contingency plan, I just kinda feel bad for Bud Selig, I mean nothin can go right for this guy, even in his own hometown and everything. But oh well, baseball's basically just going to crap anyway....just check out how my colleague Jeff Rice breaks it down in this column.......and while your at it, read The Rick's column about the blurring lines between sports and entertainment, funny stuff.

I'll leave you now with some songs to check out:

1. Fugees - "Fu-Gee-La"
2. Helloween - "The Departed (Sun is Going Down)"
3. Van Halen - "Mean Street"
4. Ozzy Osbourne - "So Tired"

Yo Jay,
I'm drunk right now and sort of ashamed of myself for drinking on a Tuesday night. But I want to tell you something: you won't miss anything when the gay arts festival goes down in State College this week. Just a bunch of homos like myself wasting our time. Anyway, me and you rocking the collegian is one of the few things I look forward to about school starting in August.
Your Pal,
Chris Rajotte

Now this is what I'm talking about people, if only more of you could follow Chris' example......by the way, thanks for the post bud.

Can somebody tell me how the Lakers were named Team of the Year at the Espy's last night over the UConn Huskies girls' basketball team? Yeah I know everybody in Hollywood is all into sniffing LA's jocks, and they wanted to make sure Kobe got up on stage so they could pull big ratings, but how can you deny a team that pounded the rest of the NCAA and finished their season undefeated, not to mention the three All-Americans they had on their roster and the nation's top player in Sue Bird.....yeah I'm probably biased because I was a womens' basketball writer and I got to see UConn play in person, but I'm not a fan or anything, I'm only saying they were probably the most dominant team EVER in their sport, can you say that about the Lakers of 2002? I dont think so.

Jffy243: i was at yankee stadium on saturday...the sun disappeared because canadia caught on feye-er....it was terrifying...good think the yanks got blown out, and golden boy jeter had to sit out the whole thing

Auto response from JayBart2: at work until 9.........check out my boy Giambi in the HR
derby tonight

Yeah you can suck it Jeff Rice.......god i hate people who hate the yankees.

By the way, check out that away message, am I a prophet or what?

In case you missed it..........................Giambi won.

Tonight I'm covering the All-Star game............

....the LITTLE LEAGUE All-Star game that is. Look for it in tomorrow's trashtonian.

Props to the Rangers for resigning goalie Mike Richter, it was a logical move and he's one of my all-time favorites....

More props to ESPN's Peter Gammons for writing this article in defense of the NY Yankees, he raises some pretty good points.

Even more props to my friend Paul for signing my guestbook (yes, the new Rush does rule).........as for the rest of you, what the hell are you waiting for? Sign it.

Alright, back to baseball, I'm actually looking forward to this week's All-Star game, I've been getting into it more lately and I think this should be a good game, although there probably won't be a moment as memorable or as hilarious as last year's game when Tommy Lasorda flipped over as he was hit by a broken bat, that one will live on forever in my mind. But anyway, this all-star game will be good, hopefully I'll get to catch most of it while I'm at work......its too bad that baseball might not even resume after the all-star break because of these stupid labor negoatiations and the threat of strike. I used to think it was all the fault of baseball commissioner Bud Selig, but if youre interested, theres a big article in this week's Sports Illustarted that you should check out, its pretty interesting and it'll shed some light on this whole mess.

Now I want to plug an upcoming concert.....my friends of Black Dahlia (formerly Bleeding Ground) will be playing at L'amours in Brooklyn NY again on Friday, July 19th, and tix are only $8! It should be another killer show, you can drop me an IM or email for more info.

A big day for NY sports teams yesterday.......the Yankees acquired Raul Mondesi in a trade with Toronto, and the Rangers signed Bobby Holik, formerly of the Devils.......lets discuss.

The Mondesi acquisition is a pretty good deal, Toronto really wanted to get him off their hands because they can't afford him, and they are still going to have to pay some of his contract so he's only costing NY like $7 million, which is pretty cheap. The deal only cost the Yanks some AA pitcher who wasn't really highly regarded anyway. Yes, Mondesi has struggled at the plate this year and had some run-ins with Toronto management, but he'll be alot better defensively than the Shane Spencer/John Vanderwal combo the Yanks have used in right field and gives them more production at the plate...it also allows them to move one of those guys to left and let Rondell White DH. Mondesi has a great outfield arm and he's a potential 30-30 guy. The Yankee-haters can chime in now about them "buying" another player late in the season but I really don't care.

Next up is the Holik signing.....this one I really like, Holik is a great two-way player and was instrumental in the Devils' recent success...I bet those Devs fans are pissed over management letting him get away, to their hated rivals no less. But its a move I think the Rangers had to make if they ever want to get back in the playoffs.....letting Theo Fleury go was another one, theyve traded his rights to San Jose, which means that anybody can sign him and the Rangers would still be compensated, lets just hope NY doesnt sign him back...hes a talented player and I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt, I hope he can turn things around in his life but it just wasn't working out and he was becoming a big distraction...we can still be friends though. The Rangers have done the same thing with Mike Richter, trading his rights to Edmonton, with the hopes that if he signs elsewhere they could get compensated and turn around and sign free agent Curtis Joseph......although I'm nervous that Cujo will end up resigning with Toronto or bolting to Detroit to fill the Dominik Hasek void, so getting Richter back would be a good thing, I'd hate to see the guy go after everything he's done. But to sum it up, the Rangers finally made a smart offseason signing, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they'll be back in the playoffs next year where they belong, and the free agency bonanza isn't over yet so lets see what else happens.

Alright in other news, I did more little league coverage yesterday, you can find my thrilling articles in today's edition of the Trentonian. Tonight I am covering the annual Sunshine Classic football game, which pits the top high school seniors from Mercer County's CVC schools and the prep ranks against the seniors of the Skyland Conference......it should be a fun time and a good game, look for that article tomorrow.

I'll leave you with more songs, I know you're excited:

1. Robert Plant - "Song to the Siren"
2. Stone Sour (f. Corey Taylor of Slipknot) - "Get Inside"
3. Soulfly - "L.O.T.M."
4. Poor Righteous Teachers f. IQ - "Rock Dis Funky Joint"
5. Fight - "Into the Pit"
6. Korn - "Bottled Up Inside"
7. Black Sabbath - "She's Gone"
8. Vader - "The Final Massacre"
9. Demons and Wizards - "Path of Glory"
10. Pete Rock and CL Smooth - "They Reminisce Over You"
