step into JAY'S WORLD...
Thursday, January 30, 2003
Well, another Rangers coach bites the dust ... Bryan Trottier was fired after two recent poundings by the Atlanta Thrashers ... two days after I said they better make the playoffs, no less ... I just don't get it, they've been through five coaches now and none have been able to get this All-Star caliber roster to live up to its potential ... I'm really gettin fed up, I think they should consider getting Scotty Bowman out of retirement or something, this team is slowly turning into the Knicks for god's sake ....

On a more pleasant note, I attended a speech by director Spike Lee yesterday ... it was pretty good, he made some funny comments and he had some choice words for President Bush and Trent Lott, he also said college athletes should get a stipend, and had some inspired words for us college students, the future of America and all that .... oh and some fat bitch kept making these "uh huh!" and "tell the truth!" comments every time he made a point, it was pretty annoying ... she also made a big fuss because she couldn't sit up front in the seats reserved for the media ... then while asking a lenghty question during the Q&A sessions she asked Spike for one of his bottled waters that were sitting up near the podium, everyone enjoyed a good laugh over that one .... some people, I'll tell ya .... all in all a good speech

Don't forget: radio show tonight at 12, you know the station, dummy .... hopefully there will be a few special guests as well. Don't miss it.

Just a heads up: check out the new albums by The Haunted (One Kill Wonder) and Children of Bodom (Hate Crew Deathroll) ... very good stuff to kick off 2003 ....

Man, can you believe Joe Millionaire sent home MoJo ???? I'm still reeling from that one ....

Today is a great day .... my one class of the day is canceled, and I'm also off from work ... now I'm just chillin in my pajamas, rockin out Megadeth Rust in Peace style ... in a little while I'm gonna play some racquetball with Jen, and later we're going to attend a speech by award-winning director and the world's greatest Knicks fan, Spike Lee ...should be a fun time ....

Hey congratulations to Tom Poti, the New York Rangers defenseman was named to the NHL's Eastern Conference All-Star team in place of his injured teammate, Brian Leetch .... pretty ironic that on a team of well-paid superstars, the relatively unknown Poti is named an All-Star ... but he deserves it though, believe it or not he's the team-leader in points and he's been their most consistent player .... all I gotta say is, the Blueshirts better make the playoffs this year because I'm getting pretty fed up, if they don't make it I'm thinking about suiting up for them next year to lead them to glory .... or maybe I'll just convert to a Columbus Blue Jackets fan .... jk. Anyway, don't miss the All-Star contest Sunday at 2:30 on ABC, it should be a good one since they've gone back to the East vs. West format .... and after that check out the NFL Pro Bowl so you can see my boys Jeremy Shockey and Michael "The Gap" Strahan tear shit up on the field in anticipation for next season (or at least see Shockey throw ice water at some kids) ...

What a Super Bowl huh, 48-21 Bucs ... once again my Super Bowl Synopsis was pretty bad ... although I was right about the running game, a whopping 124 yards for sorry-ass Michael Pittman and an astounding 19 by the Raiders!! Very shocked the way Tampa dominated this game, I thought it'd be a close one ... oh well, at least I got to witness it in the company of good friends, except poor Mike Heid, a dedicated Raiders fan who could only drown his sorrows in alcohol .... and how about my prediction for MVP, Rich Gannon, getting shredded for five picks .... but on the positive note, my brother won $100 in a pool, he has my congratulations .....

My pick for commercial of the night has to be the one with that linebacker tackling people in the office ..... "that's a long distance call, Doug!"

Very special birthday wishes to my good pal The Rick, although he did not get his wish for a Steelers Super Bowl win, I can personally guarantee him he'll see a Giants-Steelers SB next year .... well, at least half of that is true ... anyway, happy 22nd Rick!

Earlier tonight Jen and I checked out the Ms. Penn State 2003 competition, and what a competition it was ... 16 girls battling it out in swimsuit, evening gown and talent showdowns, vying for the ultimate honor at PSU ... Bobbie Jo Solomon was even there, that's right, Penn State's own BLUE SAPPHIRE, she came in like 5th place though, thats how rough it was, even with her excellent twirling routine .... this one girl did an African tribal dance routine, another performed a short acting skit about AIDS, some had talent and some didnt, but in the end they separated the pretenders from the contenders, the winner was this girl who performed for our theater 100 class, she's a double threat, singing AND acting .... a worthy champion.

After that we played some racquetball, Jen kicked my ass ... but what she doesn't know is, I was just hustling her, next time we'll put money on it and i'll rob her blind, oh yes, I'll have my revenge ...

Yesterday I watched this thing on ESPN, it was the Pop Warner Super Bowl .... it was funny, East Anchorage Alaska Eagles vs. some Maryland Rams team .... Alaska had this running back Vernon Pennywell, what a name, anyway he had cornrows and a silver chain and everything, he looked like a 25-year old in Ja Rule's posse, this was the 13-15 year old age bracket mind you ... before the game Merrill Hodge and Ron Jaworski did a whole segment where they broke down the gameplans, Jaworski even did his trademark game tape analyzation complete with giant yellow arrows pointing at the pulling guards on certain plays, and of course they did some humorous in-studio banter, they even had the usual Edge NFL Matchup sign in the background but the NFL was covered up with a makeshift banner that said POP WARNER CHAMPIONSHIPS, very good stuff .... oh and they even had former NFL superstars Rob Moore and Carnell Lake doing sideline reporting, Moore looked like a robot reading off a cue card while interviewing a kid ... in the end the Rams won, as my roommate (and notorious Philly fan) Matt noted, the Eagles will never win a Super Bowl ... so true, so true ....

Finally, check out the new website for my cousin's band, a pop-punk trio known as Random Chanse ... coming soon to a Warped Tour near you ...

Well it's that time once again folks, that's right, my Super Bowl XXXVII Synopsis ....as always, Jays World does not advocate gambling and will not be held responsible for losses incurred by those who bet according to Jays synopsis ..

Well its finally here, the big battle of the swashbucklers, Raiders vs. Buccaneers, No. 1 offense vs. No. 2 defense Im really hoping for a good game, it doesnt have to match the emotional intensity of last years Patriots upset win, or the Giants XXV squeaker over the Bills (greatest SB ever), but come on, lets not have another 49ers-Chargers debacle I dont think we will, it should be a close game, these two teams are pretty well matched. I really think the key for this SB is the running game, of course every coach from Jon Gruden to Rich Kotite could tell you about how important it is to establish the run, but I think its of utmost importance in this matchup its not like the old days though, where the teams feature an outstanding 1,000 yard rusher (which used to mean a lot) and if you held that runner to under 100 yards rushing you had a good chance to win the game. This season, only one of the top ten rushers in the NFL (Tiki Barber) led his team to the playoffs neither of these teams feature outstanding running games (the Raiders and Bucs are ranked 18th and 27th in rushing, respectively). Thats why itll be important to get some kind of running game going, if you look at these teams losses this season youll see that they were held to ridiculously low rushing totals. Of course both have good quarterbacks who can spread the ball on offense to many different receivers, but a lot of that is predicated on the running game. If the Raiders can manage to shut down Michael Pittman and Mike Alstott and hold them somewhere under 75-80 yards rushing (and I think they can Tampa may have the third-ranked run defense, but Oakland is fifth) then they win the game. The Bucs have a shot of course, Raiders secondary is weak and if they can bust some big passing TDs early (ie PSU alum Joe Jurevicius against the Eagles) theyll be in it. Still, I see this one as all Oakland, a final swan song for Jerry Rice and Tim Brown, and heck, even Rich Gannon they knocked on the door the last few years, now theyre in the stadium and ready to end this thing.

Final Score:
Oakland 34, Tampa Bay 20
MVP:
Rich Gannon

Last night's All-Covers show was a huge success, I wanna send out special thanks to my guests Smokin' D, Cancer Man, and the Cosmic Joker .... had a lot of fun, played a whole lot of covers, good times ....

Speaking of metal, I have a little metal news as heard first on my radio show, it looks like we may have seen the end of Pantera, it seems that guitarist Dimebag Darrell and his fat brother, drummer Vinnie Paul, are pretty pissed at singer Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown, who have been devoting a lot of time to their other band, Down ... Dimebag and Vinnie have formed a new band called New Found Power, with former Halford guitarist Patrick Lachman on vocals and ex-Jerry Cantrell guitarist Shawn Matthews on bass ... a stunning development, and a real shame if Pantera is finished ... I'll keep you posted ...

Finally, check out this mp3 (courtesy of ed), it's probably the freakiest, creepiest shit I've ever heard ...there's a little description on the site, I can't even talk about it, just give it a listen ....

Thursday, January 23, 2003
I've got a very special show in store for everyone on the radio tonight .... I'll be doing another All-Covers Edition of the Metal Machine, I did one last year and it was a great success, this year should be even better ... as always, I'll have some very special guests, and of course there will be plenty of surprises .... even those who aren't metal fans will want to check it out, you better believe there will be covers of Jimi Hendrix, Depeche Mode, Pink Floyd, Twisted Sister, Billy Idol, Aerosmith and many many more, in addition to the usual hilarious on-air hijincks and your daily dose of metal ..... tune in beginning at midnight on The Lion 90.7, or check it out on the web at www.lion-radio.com ....

Well the Super Bowl hype is in high gear, let's just hope it's a good game .... I'll have my Super Bowl Synopsis very soon ... last year I said this whole thing about wouldn't it be great if the Patriots won, don't count them out, should be a close game hopefully .... then I went and said: Rams 35, Pats 28. Sooooo hopefully I'll be on the money this year. We'll see.....

Big changes coming for my former movie reviews (by the jew) page, stay tuned ....

Looks like my friend Mike is gonna have a good ol' time at his internship with MTV this semester, check out his post about the first day, I found it both informative and witty, pretty much the exact opposite of my posts ... anyway, check back often with his site as he'll hopefully have regular updates about his job working as Carson's personal foot massager ...

Back to the Super Bowl for a second, check out this classic quote from my main man Lawrence Taylor before the Giants' thrashing of the Denver Broncos in SB XXI :

"I can be an SOB. Nasty, lousy, mean people are the guys who get the farthest ... I love the contact. It makes the game real enjoyable. I can go two or three games without a kill shot. That's when the snot comes from [a quarterback's] nose and he starts quivering on the ground. You want to run the film again and again ... "

Now that's hardcore.

Monday, January 20, 2003
Well it looks like my playoff predictions were dead on .... I called the big Tampa Bay upset over the Eagles, man it was sweet ... I watched it at the Collegian surrounded by some Philly fans, I felt like that Miami fan surrounded by NY Jets fans in that commercial, I was the lone solitary guy cheering ... I told you they had it comin, what a way to end that long glorious history of the Vet, with the Eagles fans booing their own savior, McNabb ..... how bout my boy Joe Jurevicius, former Penn Stater mind you, scoring that huge TD after missing practice because of his premature baby .... and how about Ronde Barber tearing shit up, honestly I think it was Tiki in that uniform on some of those plays, they just traded off every series .... the game wasn't even as close as I thought it would be ..... but anyway, E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!!

Now as for the other game ... the Raiders prevailed as I predicted, that offense really did roll over Titans to the tune of 41 points, it certainly wasn't the close game I was hoping for .... but still, it looks like Jon Gruden will be taking center stage for the next week, should make for an entertaining Super Bowl though, I can't wait .....

Today was Kelly Mazzante bobblehead day at the Penn State women's basketball game ... I've had this game circled on my calendar for some time now, Jen and I got there an hour and 15 minutes early and they were ALL GONE !!!!!!!!! It's unbelievable ... they gave them to the first 1,000 fans, and 10,000 showed up, fourth largest crowd to see a PSU women's game at the BJC ... the Lady Lions pulled it out, beating Michigan State 75-70, good game, just wish I had that bobblehead, now I'm gonna have to buy one off eBay for like $100 ... oh well...

Over the weekend Jen and I went on a double date with The Rick and his companion Nicole to the Olive Garden, we had a good time, then we went back to his place to watch his videos of our Florida trip and the Collegian formal and stuff, very entertaining ... we also got to see Rick perform in a home-made music video for the song "Rub One Out" by 2gether, complete with a baseball bat protruding from his crotch, even more entertaining ..... i'll be uploading it to Kazaa soon so look for it ...

After a long hiatus, they're finally back .... my illustrious song recommendations, please feel free to download these at your leisure:

1. Emperor - "Ye Entrancemperium"
2. Spin Doctors - "What Time Is It"
3. Iron Maiden - "Blood Brothers"
4. David Lee Roth - "Yankee Rose"
5. Bloodbath - "Furnace Funeral"
6. Death - "Pull the Plug"
7. Mighty Casey - "White Girls"
8. Zero 7 - "I Have Seen"
9. Beach Boys - "God Only Knows"
10. Decapitated - "Spheres of Madness"

Friday, January 17, 2003
Well it's that time again, some big NFL playoff matchups comin up this weekend, so I'll share with you my picks:

Bucs (+3.5) over EAGLES:

I just wanna say sorry to all the Philly fans out there, because once again your team is gonna fall short of winning that elusive championship ... it's weird because both of these teams have been trying in vain for the past few years to take that next step ... I guess somebody's gotta win, I just think the Bucs are hungrier for it, I don't wanna hear that crap about it being cold weather or the intimidating Veteran's Stadium (ooooooh) .... and I don't really have any facts or figures to back this one up, I guess I'm just really hoping the Eagles go down in flames, so I'm pulling for a Tampa win ....
Bucs 24, Eagles 20

Titans (+7.5) over RAIDERS:
Granted, the Raiders looked good last week in destroying the Jets, that was a surprise for me ... the Titans also came down to not one, not two, but three field goal attempts to beat the crap Steelers, but still, I think Tennessee will be able to keep this one close thanks to Air McNair, after watching this guy this season with all the injuries he's had, I really have a newfound respect for him, and he's the reason this one will be close .... but I just think the Raiders are on a mission this year, after they considered themselves robbed last season in the playoffs against New England ... the offense is on a roll and they'll be too tough for the Titans to stop. Bring on the endless stories about Chucky Gruden and his upcoming battle against his former team in the Super Bowl ....
Raiders 35, Titans 32

It appears that I'm not the only one hangin out with Mandy these days, besides Jack Osbourne she's also been out cavorting behind my back with not one but two of my friends in these pictures, both Mike and Ed .... laugh it up fellas, she still comes home to me ...

Finally some good news in the headlines, Fox has renewed the Simpsons through at least 2005 ... it may not be as funny as the classic episodes but still its better than 99% of the crap on television these days (except for Man vs. Beast, I cannot believe I forgot to watch that, hopefully it'll be replayed soon)....

Thursday, January 16, 2003
Further proof that me and Mandy go way back .... here's us at P. Diddy's record release party .... (photo courtesy ED)

Wednesday, January 15, 2003
Do yourself a favor and check out our Florida Pics, courtesy of Jen, they came out really good, so good that it'll almost be like you were there along with us on our odyssey to see Penn State blow in the Capital One Bowl .....

Speaking of which, check out this quote that appeared in the Collegian earlier this week, its from a disgruntled Larry Johnson about the team's offensive performance against Auburn:

"We're trying to do too much stuff, we're taking out this, putting in this, and everything's just jumbled," he said. "The last thing I would have done is try to pass the ball around. I'd try to pound their ass and see what they can take ... We were trying to find other ways to trick them. Those guys aren't dumb. They're going to slide and do whatever. I would just wear their asses out. If we're going to lose, I'd rather lose and have them taking an ass beating, and I don't think they did."

Quote of the year right there.

Also, speakin of the Collegian, if you get a chance, check out the layout of the Big Ten women's basketball preview in today's paper, I designed it, I'm pretty proud ...

It appears that I've had a request to remove the Movie Reviews (By the Jew) section from Jay's World .... This has been an often overlooked but highly entertaining section of the site since the early days, but the Jew himself asked to have it taken down partly because it's lost its relevance, partly because Mike only reviewed two movies in a span of two years .... so take one last look before it goes into the Jay's World vault forever. I've also put together some highlight clips, take a look at these:

"Friday June 15th will go down in history for movie goers and perverted video gamers alike as the popular video game vixen Lara Croft of Tomb Raider fame burst onto the big screen in a full breasted, umm I mean length, full length blockbuster summer movie..."

"I'll give it 2 stars of David out of 4, one for the eye pleasing stunts and special effects and the other star for Jolie's sexy lips...damn she's hot!! Bring on the sequel...oi vey "

"The comedy then flows forth and hits the viewer like a line of fat men at the opening of a Vegas buffet."

"Now in my opinion I thought it was good, but not great. It was missing something...namely a little more T and/or A."

"I mean I expected a little more from Gregory Poirier, the writer of such masterpieces as See Spot Run (2001), the cult classic Sorority Pink 3 (1992), and who could forget that perennial classic The $50,000,000 Cherry (1987), in which Poirier collaborated with John T. Bone."

"Performance-wise, I don't think Jerry O' Connell could carry the movie as well as, lets say, Tom Hanks in 1984s Bachelor Party, but then again who can? "

Finally, I'm really beginning to hate Jack Osbourne ... if anyone happened to see the recent episode where he was hanging out with Mandy Moore, that was the last straw for me ... I mean he is Ozzy's son, he's a multi-millionaire, he doesn't go to school, travels the world, does whatever he wants, is personal friends with Phil of Pantera and many other heavy metal stars, now this ...... it's alright though, need I remind everyone that I too have hung out with Mandy ....

Monday, January 13, 2003
Well I'm back at school for my very last semester, the final countdown begins .... it's going well so far, I'm enjoying my schedule, three classes today at 10, 12:20 and one more at 3:45 ..... its the same thing on wednesday, and the same friday except I don't have the last class .... tuesdays and thursdays are a breeze too, only one class at 2:30 ....had Food Science and Landscape Archetecture so far and they seem like cake ....

Work is going well too, we had an early deadline last night and more pages than usual and we still got out at 11 p.m., hopefully the rest of the year will be just as smooth ....

Another playoff weekend in the NFL, although only one game was exciting (Steelers-Titans).... Oh and my playoff record was a dismal 1-3 against the spread, although I did pick 3 winners out of 4 ... I'll have my picks for the conference championships soon, although my credibility is pretty much shot ....

Friday, January 10, 2003
Great trip to NYC yesterday, Jen and I hit up The Late Show with David Letterman .... they actually did two tapings of the show yesterday, so the one we saw will be on tonight, former Conan O'Brien sidekick Andy Richter and comedian Rich Hall were the guests, they were pretty funny ... Dave was good too, all in all it was a good show, so check it out on CBS tonight, even though you probably won't see us.

We also caught a glimpse of Renee Zellweger, who was on the earlier show, we saw her getting into her limo afterward and Jen got some pics .... oh and get this, we were walking down the street near the NBC studios and who did we happen to run into but the one and only Rosie O'Donnell (along with her girlfriend), so Jen got her picture taken with Rosie .... it was definitely a fun trip, and I'll try to get those pics available online soon.

Hey if you haven't noticed, the Penn State Lady Lions are tearing up women's basketball right now .... the No. 17 Lions have blown their way through the Big Ten conference so far, destroying Wisconsin, 86-55, pounding the high-scoring ninth-ranked Minnesota Gophers, 83-53, and most recently topping a good Iowa squad, 86-52 .... can't wait to get back to school and check out my team, all you Penn Staters should do the same ...

Speaking of which, tomorrow I'm heading back up to State College for my final semester .... it's been a real good break, but I'm ready to get back to work, I only have four classes next semester, two of which are cake ... I'm also taking over as the head night sports editor at the Collegian, should be fun as always ... It'll also be the final semester of the The Madman's radio show, same timeslot (Thursdays @ midnight) new attitude ... other than that I'm just ready to live it up and end my college career in style ... jay's world style, that is ....

Finally it's time for my ***NFL Playoff Picks*** (I forgot to do the first round, my bad) ...

TITANS (-4) over Steelers:
I've had the (dis)pleasure of watching pretty much every "Stillers" game this season thanks to the inept programming of my central Pennsylvania cable provider, and I can tell you one thing, this team is crap ... I'm sorry, they've got a good run defense and some nice weapons at wide receiver, but every game they either seem to dodge a bullet (see: last week) or shoot themselves in the foot (see: every loss this season) .... they should have lost last week, and the NFL gods will catch up with them this week.
Titans 28, Steelers 21

Falcons (+7.5) over EAGLES:
Ah yes, it's the much-hyped Vick vs. McNabb matchup everyone is salivating over .... but guess what folks, football is a team sport, Vick didn't kill the Packers last week, they did themselves in by sloppy play and five turnovers, and Atlanta has a pretty good defense that caused alot of that .... Neither Vick nor McNabb will have as much of an impact on the outcome as most are predicting, the Falcons' D will keep this one close but the Eagles' D will win the game. Now, of course, that's just my professional opinion, you better believe I'll be rooting like hell for the ATL and if Vick pulls this one out I'll be eternally grateful, since it'll shut up all the goddamn Eagles fans ....
Eagles 35, Falcons 32

BUCS (-5) over 49ers:
I still think the Bucs are an overrated team, until they do anything in the playoffs I'll stick with that opinion, yes they have a great defense but individually I think Brad Johnson, Warren Sapp, Mike Alstott AND Jon Gruden are all overrated .... with that said, I'll say that the 49ers are MORE overrated than Tampa, and after last week's game vs. the Giants I know it's true. If that team didn't have Terrell Owens they wouldn't be in the playoffs, period, let alone the second round ... you saw the Giants completely shut them down for three quarters, the running game was non-existant, but New York didn't have the personnel to stop Owens and Jeff Garcia ... the Bucs do. Plus, although they aren't exactly an offensive juggernaut, Tampa will be able to put some points on the board against a very weak S.F. secondary ...
Bucs 21, 49ers 14

Jets (+5.5) over Raiders:
Finally, the matchup everyone's talking about, "this year's Patriots" (god I'm sick of hearin that) vs. the old geezer Oakland .... it'll be a good game no doubt, and granted, New York is the hottest team in the league right now .... Raiders are good but it's time for someone to put them out of their misery, if anyone can do it, it's the Jets. I'm not jumpin on the bandwagon here, I just think momentum is on their side, I like the way they play, Chad Pennington is a heartthrob, plus I gotta stick with NY now that the Giants are out .... but i'll give everyone a heads-up, I have a bad feeling about the Jets because if they truly wanna be this year's Pats, then nobody has to believe in them and everyone has to keep thinkin they're gonna lose, its the exact opposite for them this year, and it'll come back around when they run into a brick wall against the Titans in a shocker next week, don't say I didn't warn you ..... but until then, J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets!!!
Jets 34, Raiders 28

Wednesday, January 08, 2003
Just finished watching the epic Gangs of New York ... pretty good movie, and a great performance by Daniel Day-Lewis as the evil Bill the Butcher, give that man an Oscar .... Also, I should note that I watched the movie on DVD in the comfort of my own home, my dad happened to get his hands on a promotional copy for one night only ... pretty sweet.

It appears that Mike's blogger site is up and running once again after a lengthy self-imposed hiatus ... check it out, its full of insightful tidbits and non-stop laughs (which is no surprise, I taught him everything he knows about personal website management) ...

Tuesday, January 07, 2003
****This just in:

The NFL has issued a statement announcing that the officials in the New York - San Francisco playoff game should have called a pass interference penalty on the last play of the game, which would have resulted in the Giants getting one more offensive play with no time left on the clock. A surprising development, but I guess it doesnt matter because 1) the game's over and 2) there would have been another special teams mistake anyway and they still would have lost. Still, I guess it takes away just a little of the stinging .....

****This just in (part 2):

Jen received a call earlier this evening informing her that she will receive tickets to view the taping of The Late Show with David Letterman on Thursday, so it looks like we're headed to NYC before winter break wraps up ..... should be a lot of fun.

Monday, January 06, 2003
Well I'm finally back from a relaxing week in beautiful Florida ... Al, Jen, Rick and I ventured down to Palm Coast to stay with Al's godparents ... we also went over to Orlando to watch Penn State take on Auburn in the Capital One Bowl .... not a very good showing for the Nittany Lions, they lost 13-9 in a lackluster performance. Zack Mills had probably his worst performance as a starting QB, he just looked awful, and Larry Johnson didn't look too much better, mustering just 72 yards and criticizing the team's play-calling afterward. Credit to the defense though, they kept the team in it even until the very end .... it was a disappointing end to a great season though, they definitely took some positive steps this year, returning to prominance and making a nice bowl game. Next year will be a big challenge as they lose Larry and several good defensive starters .... I just can't wait until the Blue-White game and to watch my boys go high in the NFL Draft ....

Anyway, besides the outcome of the game, we had a great time in Florida .... we spent a day at Unversal Studios' Islands of Adventure, ate at the Hard Rock Cafe, met the band Sevendust, got caught in a rainstorm, celebrated the new year, got our pics taken with Dr. Doom, met up with some Collegian folks, picked up some souvenirs, checked out downtown Orlando, Daytona Beach, and St. Augustine, and not to mention the 16-plus hour car rides each way ... the weather was absolutely perfect, too ... all in all we had an outstanding trip and a whole lot of fun. And of course Jen took a multitude of awesome pictures, i'll let you know when they're available.

Finally, a word about the Giants' heartbreaking 39-38 playoff loss to the 49ers yesterday .... that one was tough to swallow, probably the toughest football loss I've suffered besides their most recent trip to the Superbowl .... the offense was amazing once again, with Kerry Collins, Amani Toomer, Tiki Barber and Jeremy Shockey all on fire .... it looked like it was going to be a blowout win, but it wasn't to be, the defense let them down in the second half, the play-calling got too conservative with the lead and of course the special teams were god-awful, as they've been all season. Big Blue's first priority this offseason should be a revamped special teams, complete with a new kicker, punter and especially a long-snapper. I feel bad for Trey Junkin, the 41-year old long-snapper, I really do, but his only job was to long-snap and he failed twice, it's just unacceptible. Oh well, I'm excited for next season, now that the offensive and defensive units know what they are capable of ... Can't wait to see the changes they make though, I'd like to see them pick up some nice defensive and offensive lineman, maybe someone in the secondary to replace Jason Sehorn (he's just not cutting it), and with the return of Ike Hilliard and Tim Carter at receiver to go with Toomer, plus the maturing of Shockey (how about when he gave that guy the finger? Classic!) there's a lot of hope for the future ...
