****Breaking News*****

R.I.P. Mr. Rogers 1928-2003

The world has lost a legend folks, the great Mr. Rogers died of stomach cancer last night at his home ... the world mourns the loss of a true pioneer of children's television .... he taught generations of kids like myself how to take off your shoes when you enter the house, how to play with puppets, not to mention the numerous tours of candy factories and pig farms he took us on .... in a world of X-boxes, Pokemon and kids killing kids, it's important we remember the positive contributions this great man made to our society .... he will be missed ....

Well it seems as though I've been forgetting to post some major Jay News .... for those that don't know already, this summer I'll be doing an internship at the Pittsburgh Tribune .... I'll be doin some sports copy editing and shit, it should be pretty cool .. at least I don't have to worry about findin a job for just a little bit longer (of course that's right around the corner too) .... anyway, if anybody happens to know of any cheap sublets in the Pittsburgh area that allow polite metalheads, let me know ....

In other news, my friend Mike met P.Diddy the other day ... well not really met but he sat in on an interview with him while workin at his internship at MTV (aka TTV) .... it was either that or sit in on an interview with Rob Zombie, personally I wouldve chose Rob but that's just me ...

JayBart2: but oh well at least you met p did
JayBart2: did he have an enterouge of hoes with him
Mik0138: yea, i didn't get formally introduced but i was like 2 feet away from him
Mik0138: blinded by his bling
Mik0138: and i held the door for him as he left the interview room
JayBart2: haha
JayBart2: nice
JayBart2: did he throw a 100 dollar bill at you
JayBart2: like at your face
Mik0138:hahaha
Mik0138: ahhah well actually it was a 500 dollar bill with his face on it
JayBart2: hahah Diddy Dollars

Some more music news, looks like Jason Newsted of Voivod (formerly of Metallica) is auditioning to be the bass player in Ozzy Osbourne's band to replace Rob Trujillo, who took Jason's old job in Metallica earlier this week ..... it's kind of crazy, but I think Newsted would be a good fit with Zakk Wylde and Mike Bordin, that's a killer lineup .... plus Voivod is also playin at this year's Ozzfest so Jason would be doin double duty .... no word yet if this is offiicial so I'll keep you posted ...

Hey check out the new design for the WTC .... it's gonna be the tallest buildings in the world .... pretty phat ...

Tunes:

1. Cold - "Stupid Girl" (f. Rivers Cuomo of Weezer)
2. Audioslave - "Like a Stone"
3. Megadeth - "The Conjuring"
4. Metallica - "The Mechanix" (demo)
5. Darkane - "A Wisdom's Breed"
6. Forbidden - "Through the Eyes of Glass" (live)
7. Bruce Dickinson - "Tears of the Dragon"
8. The Crown - "Total Satan"
9. AC/DC - "Jailbreak"
10. Jerry Cantrell - "She Was My Girl"

One more thing: Metal Machine, midnight, The Lion 90.7fm, be there or be square ......

Had a great weekend with Jen & her grandparents, had some very good (free) meals and had some fun showing them the wonders of State College in February ... at least it didnt snow ....

Congrats to those crazy kids at Thon for raising over $3.6 million for cancer research ...

Here's a little metal news ... it appears that metal legends Metallica have found themselves a new bass player, none other than Mr. Robert Trujillo, former bassist of Suicidal Tendencies and more recently Ozzy Osbourne! A very nice choice indeed, I don't know if its enough to salvage their former greatness or to convince me to go to the "Summer Sanitarium" tour with Limp Bizkit & Linkin Park et. al. but we'll see ....

I wanna give a shoutout to my fantasy hockey team, the Penn State Hoes .... currently in third place (out of 16) in the Zambonilicious league, I don't really know who else is in it other than Mike's roommate .... funny story, I agreed to join the league when it started, but I had some other obligation and had to miss the league draft, so I figured whatever I'd just drop out .... well it turns out that my team did an auto-draft and picked players for me ... and for like the first two weeks of the season I had a whole team playing, and they were so good they were in like the top 3 of the league! Very funny indeed .... so then I actually started to manage the team and change the roster each day, make some deals .... I fell down in the rankings a bit but currently I'm on a big win streak heading into the playoffs ... it's pretty sweet. My stars? Sergei Federov, Keith Tkachuk, Marian Gaborik, Vaclav Prospal, Tom Poti, Daniel Alfredsson and Dan Cloutier, among others .....

Sometimes this world just pisses me off .... you hear about this dude who shot some girl because she hit his daughter with a snowball? It's just disgusting ...

On a lighter note, no class tomorrow ... boo yah ... that will end my transmission for the evening.

The radio show was a blast last night, The Rick stole Smokin' D's new wife and then killed him, Smokin D came back to live as the Servant of Satan, Cancer Man did a stirring tribute to Thon, there was even a guest appearance by Satan himself ... great stuff. Oh, and there was music, too. If you're not listening every Thursday night, you're missing out ....

Speakin of Thon, it's goin on right now as we speak here at Penn State ... for those who don't know, I'm talkin about the annual Penn State Dance Marathon, currently in its 30th year .... a ton of people spend 48 hours straight dancing to raise money for cancer, it's the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, last year it raised over $3 million .... it's quite a site to see, I'll be checking it out at some point this weekend I'm sure .... oh and Jen's grandparents are visiting this weekend so you better believe I'll be giving the grand PSU tour, I'm becoming a pro at it, as those who have visited me already know ....

So remember a while back I wrote a column about high school basketball player LeBron James? In the article I gave him the following advice:

"I know academics are important to you. That 3.5 grade-point average should serve you well in college; you can pick up some crazy major like recreation and park management and make the all-academic team. Don't worry about your classes either -- there are plenty of people that can help you, and you won't need to go to most of them anyway. Wouldn't a college diploma go nice in the trophy room of your mansion someday, right next to the 10-foot flatscreen TV?"

Well I got the following e-mail from a certain member of the Recreation Park Management Student Society who shall remain nameless:

Dear Jason,

I read your article today in the collegian and I couldn't agree with you anymore. But one part of your article stuck out, where you said "you coulde pick up some crazy major like recreation park management and make the all academic team". The reason why I chose this quote is because I am what you called a "crazy" recretaion park manager major. But your quote made it sound like are major is easy. Sure were not Engineers but we are still and important part of society. We are people that will provide the world with recreation opportunities. So what I'm trying to say is be careful what you call "easy" because if college was "easy" then why would we be here?

Point well taken.

Finally, I suggest you check out Dave Chappelle's new show on Comedy Central, it's on Wednesdays at 10 .... one of the few current TV shows worth watching (besides the Simpsons, South Park, Pardon the Interruption, Conan and Letterman) ... do yourself a favor and watch.

Check out some pics from me and Jen's fun in the snow ....

Here's a little tidbit from blabbermouth:

BLACK SABBATH bandmates Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi have been collaborating long-distance on songwriting, the singer revealed during the press conference Tuesday (Feb. 18) to announce the lineup for the eighth annual outing of Ozzfest. It is not presently clear if the collaboration will lead to a new BLACK SABBATH studio album, or if the material may be used for an upcoming solo album by either party.

Very good news .... but on the other hand, they announced that Sabbath WILL NOT be playing Ozzfest as originally expected :( Here's a look at the 2003 lineup:

Main Stage:

OZZY OSBOURNE
KORN
MARILYN MANSON
DISTURBED
CHEVELLE

Second Stage:

CRADLE OF FILTH
(co-headliners)
TRUST COMPANY (co-headliners)
MEMENTO
HOTWIRE
SHADOWS FALL
GRADE 8
TWISTED METHOD
NOTHINGFACE
KILLSWITCH ENGAGE
UNLOCO

I'd want to see Killswitch and Shadows Fall, Nothingface might be cool, maybe even Korn, and I'd want to check out Cradle of Filth even though I hate the singer .... and of course OZZY .... but sorry, it just ain't worth the money, not to mention standing around in the heat all day with nu-metal 12 year olds ... I'd much rather check out the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival (Opeth, Nevermore, Lamb of God, The Haunted, Killswitch, Beyond the Embrace, Kataklysm, among many others), too bad it takes place over the weekend I graduate ... oh well, I guess it's the Cher Farewell Tour for me ....

Speaking of metal music, check out my show tonight at midnight at www.lion-radio.com or on The Lion 90.7 fm here in State College ... should be fun ...

Finally, check out these songs, see if you notice a pattern ...

1. Vader - "Rapid Fire" (Judas Priest cover)
2. Dimension Zero - "Helter Skelter" (Beatles cover)
3. Johnny Cash - "Rusty Cage" (Soundgarden cover)
4. Johnny Cash - "Hurt" (Nine Inch Nails cover)
5. Children of Bodom - "Silent Scream" (Slayer cover)
6. Nevermore - "Sound of Silence" (Simon & Garfunkel cover)
7. Apocalyptica - "Fight Fire With Fire" (Metallica cover)
8. Opeth - "Remember Tomorrow" (Iron Maiden cover)
9. Sepultura - "Piranha" (Exodus cover)
10. Zakk Wylde - "Candle in the Wind" (live Elton John cover)

Happy birthday wishes to Mr. Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, who turns 55 tomorrow ... he's one of my biggest musical inspirations, the most influential guitarist in heavy metal history and one of the best guitarists of all time ...
Stay tuned to Mike's site for a tribute ....

Yesterday we got a foot of snow and school was canceled. It was great.

Had a very enjoyable Valentine's Day, Jen and I stayed home for the evening and cooked dinner together, I have to say it was a delicious meal, we were pretty proud of ourselves ...

Last night we went to a party at The Rick's, it was quite fun, well, for the most part ... No need to go into details...

Here's some shocking news for you, there will be no Daily Collegian tomorrow, that's right, I was at work earlier this evening and they decided that it would be too costly to put out an edition if school ends up being canceled tomorrow because of the 8+ inches of snow we already have ... so luckily I got to go home early, that was pretty cool ... however, there still hasn't been an announcement about school being postponed and/or canceled yet, it's still snowing out there, if we don't get off that would just be ridiculous ... I'll keep you posted ...

Friday, February 14, 2003
I just wanna say happy Valentine's Day to Jen ... I love you :)

The Metal Machinewas excellent last night, probably the best show this year, thank you to all my guests (The Rick, Carnivore, Cancer Man, Smokin D, Charlotte the Harlot, Nasty Nicole and Chesty LaRue) as well as everyone who listened at home .... Smokin D and Nasty Nicole got hitched as part of the Who Wants to Marry a Metalhead segment we did, somehow I don't think it's gonna last too long though, but you never know .... but all in all, a fun time ....

My roommate Andrew and I watched the U.S. Open of Racquetball today on ESPN, it was some very exciting action, someday I hope to be a racquetball champion like this guy named Sudsy who won ...

I also found out that Andrew went to kindergarten with Christina Aguilera, ain't that some shit?! Don't forget to watch the Christina special tonight at 10 on ABC, she's gonna tell all her "dirrrty" secrets, you don't wanna miss this ....

Tuesday, February 11, 2003
A little NHL news, my beloved Rangers picked up former Blueshirt Alexei Kovalev in an eight-player, three-team deal .... it's a great pickup honestly, they didn't have to give away any of their prime young talent or their top six forwards, just some scrubs and $4 million to get a great offensive player from the cash-strapped Penguins ... it's weird though, I mean this guy sucked for the better part of like six years when he was with New York, it was so frustrating to watch this guy who showed sparks of offensive brilliance but never fully materialized until after he got shipped to Pittsburgh, then he goes on to become a 40-goal scorer ... as a longtime Ranger fan it's strange to hear ESPN analyst Darren Pang calling Kovalev "one of the elite players in the league and a world-class offensive talent." But anyway, now that we've got him, theres just no excuses, the Rangers must make the playoffs or they'll probably be considered one of the biggest failures in sports history based on their talent level the past six playoffless years ... think about their current collection of future and present stars: Mark Messier, Eric Lindros, Bobby Holik, Petr Nedved, Pavel Bure, Brian Leetch, Tom Poti, Darius Kasparitis, Matthew Barnaby, Radek Dvorak, Vladimir Malakov, Mike Dunham ... in traditional Rangers fashion their roster reads like a an All-Star team from a few years earlier ... just make the goddamn playoffs and I'll be content for a while and they can take it from there .... sorry I just felt the need to go on a Rangers rant as I clutch my faded miniature 1994 Stanley Cup championship banner as a single tear runs down my cheek ...

On a lighter note, check out my column from Tuesday's edition of the Collegian, it's another one about LeBron James, basically a tongue-in-cheek look at college and professional athletics, in a nutshell ... please read it.

Monday, February 10, 2003
Had an enjoyable weekend home with Jen, spent some time with the family ... I also covered high school phenom LeBron James, along with my colleague Fink, at the Prime Time Shootout at Trenton's famed Sovereign Bank Arena ... I have to say it was quite a spectacle, the kid put on quite a show, scoring a career-high 52 points (which equaled the output of the entire other team) ... I have to say he is definitely a talented player and probably a sure-fire NBA All-Star once he makes the leap in this year's draft, he was just scoring at will from all over the place, I feel pretty honored I got to check him out as a high school player .... there was quite a bit of media there for the event, probably the biggest circus he's ever been a part of so far, but I'm sure there will be much more of that to come .... check out our article from today's collegian and keep your eye on this kid. I'll have a column in tomorrow's paper too, look for that also ...

Finally, check out these items from TheSmokingGun.com ....

First, it appears that Joe Millionaire finalist Sarah used to be in bondage films ....

Second, the Dell Dude got busted for pot ....

Finally, take a look at this Ozzy Osbourne mugshot from a 1984 arrest, just classic ....

Thursday, February 06, 2003
Earlier tonight The Rick and I ventured to beautiful Bellefonte, Pa., the crown jewel of Centre County, as part of a field trip for our journalism class ... we checked out the city offices of the county treasurer and crap like that and listened to some presentations about voter registration and legal documents, then we went over to the courthouse and heard the assistant district attorney and the sheriff, among other people .... simply a thrilling trip, words simply cannot express ....

A reminder to all my fans (both of you):
Again, there will be NO Metal Machine with the Madman this thursday as I am taking a trip home to relax in beautiful NJ ....
The show will resume next Thursday as scheduled with a very special Valentine's Day edition of Metal Machine so don't miss it!

Yes Jen and I are heading home for the weekend, it should be fun as always, getting to sleep in and eat homecooked meals and all that good stuff, probably just spend some quality time together as well as with the families ....

Oh and check this out, my colleague Matt "Fink" Finkelstein and I have secured media credentials for the PrimeTime Shootout taking place this weekend at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, it's a big tournament-type deal for the top H.S. basketball teams from around the country, and teenage phenom LeBron James' team will be playing there ... we're gonna hit up that game and cover it for the Collegian, it should be alot of fun ... LeBron's been cleared of that whole free jersey fiasco, he's got to sit out one more game and his team had a choice, so its gonna be in late February, which means we'll get to see firsthand if this kid really is the next Jordan ... if you don't have your ticket that's too bad cuz it's sold out .... I'll be sure to update you though.

Hey speakin of hoops how about that sorry excuse PSU men's basketball team, can they get any worse? Eight losses in a row now, the latest a 20-point defeat at the hands of Iowa .... check this out, the Nittany Lions were only trailing by two at halftime, in fact later in the second half the score was 55-53 Iowa .... the final score? Hawkeyes 75, Penn State 55. That's right, PSU WAS OUTSCORED 17-2 in the final minutes of the game .... simply incredible, I ask again, can it get any worse? Is it football season yet?

And speakin of football, seems like our football team has a pretty good class of recruits coming in now that National Letter of Intent Day has come to a close, not a bad haul for only having 10 scholarships available ... they got some pretty good defensive tackles from what I hear, of course its hard to tell with these kids but indications are we've got some good athletes, the star being Allentown native Austin Scott, ESPN's third-ranked high school RB in the country ... I heard firsthand from a reliable source that this kid is amazing, so we'll see what he can do in the coming years, remember that name ...

Tuesday, February 04, 2003
Over the weekend Jen and I went to the women's basketball game (along with 12,000 other people, third-largest crowd at the Bryce Jordan Center, but thats another story..) anyway, former Heisman Trophy candidate and NFL hopeful Larry Johnson was there signing autographs (in a powder blue Lance Alworth Chargers jersey and a doo-rag, no less) ... of course we couldn't get up early enough to get there for the actual signing session, but we did get a hold of the new LJ poster, then we stalked him while he was in a luxury box watching the game, at one point he came out and signed for a few random people but I didn't have a damn pen, then later he came out but was quickly escorted out a secret entrance and I couldn't catch him ... but oh well, now I just hope he is a huge NFL bust so his autograph would be worthless anyway ..... jk ..... or am I ??

The other day I saw the weirdest person ... I say that only because this guy looked like a combination of two of my friends, Rice and The Rick .... he looked like a mutant created when the two of them were traveling in separate time machines and something went horribly wrong, leaving them melded into one individual who I call The Ricek... seriously, the guy had like Rice's hair and eyes, and Rick's mouth and chin, and even wore a leather jacket similar to ones they both wear ... I didn't know whether I should go up and say hi or run in terror ... truly horrifying ....

For my class today we have to bring a dialogue that we overheard from a conversation and wrote down .... so last night Jen and I were at the HUB and we listened in on these two girls talk about casual sex, birth control and some gossip about "Juan" ... it was pretty interesting..

Last night I also attended a State College Borough Council meeting, it was probably the single most thrilling event of my young life, they spent almost two hours honoring some local Eagle Scouts, discussing development plans for some downtown theaters, and debating whether or not to shovel snow from some bike paths .... captivating stuff.

Shout-out to Matt C the future metal director of Bloomsburg student radio .... listen to my show damn you!

Shout-out to my wonderful girlfriend Jen for no reason other than she told me to. I'm not whipped I swear.

Notice: There will be no Metal Machine with the Madman this Thursday due to my upcoming weekend visit to Hamilton, NJ .... The show will resume next week for a special Valentine's Day edition featuring Valentine's-related Metal tunes, a game of Who Wants to Marry a Metalhead, and hopefully a special visit from Charlotte the Harlot, that's next Thursday at midnight only on The Lion 90.7 fm, don't miss it!!!!

Holy crap I just realized the Hamilton site has been completely updated and revamped, check it out!!!

Saturday, February 01, 2003
How about that Shuttle Columbia explosion today, pretty crazy stuff, I have a vague recollection of seein the Challenger blow up back in the day, now this ... certainly a step back for space exploration program, quite a tragedy ...

On a lighter note, I got this weird email the other day from some dude named Johnson Tamuno, give it a look:

PLEASE RELY ME ONLY THROUGH THIS MY EMAIL ADDRESS
( johnsontamuno@karate.com )

PAYMENT CO-ORDINATOR
STANDAND TRUST BANK INTERNATIONAL PLC

Pretty strange huh, that he chose ME of all people assist him and act as his mentor .... but after all, my city ARE known for its business accumen and trustworthiness ... it's a real shame though what happened to Mr. Bruce .... anyway, I emailed Johnson back with some information about my bank account and PIN number, as well as my social security number, so everything should be taken care of, I can't wait to talk about percentages with him ...... I'm gonna be a millionaire !!!!!!!

*** UPDATE: Jen informed me that she saw a news item on TV where a woman responded to the email and got cheated out of $10,000 ..... that won't happen to me though, she probably just didnt keep it in confidentiality like Johnson asked ....

Yesterday me and Jen saw a commercial for this show comin to Altoona, motorbike racing on ice (with no brakes!!!), I am SO there ....

Word has it that Metallica will be going on a U.S. stadium tour with Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit in the very near future .... details are sketchy, this is based on post on the Linkin Park website .... all I gotta say is, that'll just be the nail in the coffin as far as Metallica's credibility as a metal band, as far as I'm concerned .... I was extremely interested in checking them out on tour, Ive never seen them in concert, but this is just too much ... what are they thinking?

Went bowling last night, and I realized something ... I am horrible at bowling. There were about 15 of us total and my score was in the bottom three each round ... and Jen totally blew me away more than once ... god I'm awful. But it was a good time anyway ...

Finally I've got a couple tunes you should check out if you have a lot of free time on your hands the way I do...

1. Queen - "Love of My Life"
2. The Haunted - "D.O.A."
3. Good Charlotte - "The Day That I Die"
