step into JAY'S WORLD...

Well the misery that was 2003 Penn State football has finally come to an end, and in grand fashion I might add, with a 41-10 drubbing at the hands of Michigan State in East Lansing, topped off with talented young wide receiver Maurice Humphrey getting arrested on assault charge (bringing the number of PSU players being arrested or cited for wrongdoing this season to 10, by my count) .... it really has been pretty disgraceful, football-wise it's been the worst season since the 1880s, there are plenty of on-field problems but hopefully those will be corrected next year, the thing I can't stand is all the off-the-field bullshit, this last Humphrey arrest really getting under my skin because these morons have the audacity to go out and get drunk and fight after repeatedly being embarrassed and being warned by the coaching staff, I really think they should all be kicked off the team to send a real message (with the exception of Scott Paxson, who got caught taking a used bike from a dumpster and riding it home) ... it's just an embarrassment to the university, I'm beginning to feel like we're Florida State, except they never suffer three-win seasons ... either A) Paterno and his coaching staff have completely lost these kids and they could care less about the program, or B) we have a bunch of bad seeds and idiots ... hopefully it's B, in that case just kick them all off the team, hell I'd give anything to have the opportunity to play football at Penn State, I can't say I'd be any better but then again it wouldn't be that hard .... these kids don't know how good they have it, it's just the pervasive mindset that they are above the law and the gods of PSU, and it's just got to come to an end ....

I'll now conclude my rant, can't wait for next season ....

Here's something else outrageous, the other day in my former paper, The Trentonian, there was an article about this senior citizen who killed someone in a hit-and-run .... I don't remember all the details, but he was in his 80s I believe, had one eye, oh and he had at least 10 previous traffic violations, arrests or citations ... and he also had been drinking prior to hitting the woman ... if that isn't a recipe for disaster I don't know what is ... after he hit her he got out to pick up some junk that had fallen out of his truck (he was known around Trenton as a junk collector), saw the woman's body and tried to play it off and left, he was later picked up at a Home Depot ... oh and they also mentioned he was known for selling watermelons around town in the summertime out of the back of his truck, it doesn't really have much relevance to the story, I just thought it was funny, and apparently the reporter agreed with me ...

Do yourself a favor and pick up this album by legendary jazz man Paul Handbell, I had the opportunity to meet him at a Denny's recently and it was quite a treat ...

So Jen's coming home tomorrow for Thanksgiving vacation :) .... looking forward to a fun week, although I have to work on Turkey Day ...

Here's something interesting, I got the following in an e-mail from the address "elizabeth@kidnapping.com" ...

We're are sick and tired of these people getting away with murder and kidnapping
and all the rest of their shit spreading their insanity worldwide.

We demand the arrest of the parents of Elizabeth Smart and them to be charged
with the kidnapping of their daughter.

The main reason for the desperation and dispair of the man that kidnapped
Elizabeth Smart is them people that overpopulate the world to death like the
parents of Elizabeth Smart creating wars starvation poverty crime etc
worldwide, killing millions and millions and millions of people and enslaving
billions of people in total dispair.

WE DEMAND THE ARREST OF THE PARENTS OF ELIZABETH SMART AND THEM TO BE CHARGED
WITH THE KIDNAPPING OF THEIR DAUGHTER BY DRIVING THE MAN INSANE THAT KIDNAPPED
THEIR DAUGHTER BY OVERPOPULATING THE WORLD TO DEATH. THE PARENTS OF ELIZABETH
PLAYED AN ACTIVE ROLE IN THE KIDNAPPING BY CREATING THE INSANITY THAT RESULTED
IN THE KIDNAPPING OF THEIR DAUGHTER.

WE DEMAND THE ARREST OF ELIZABETH SMART'S PARENTS AND THEM TO BE CHARGED WITH
KIDNAPPING !

Amen, brother.

Here's something else interesting, I was lucky enough to catch the legendary Mr. T preaching on that religious channel at 3 in the a.m. last night ... yeah, he was in full camoflauge gear and standing at a pulpit preaching about how God saved him from cancer, and you can't have a "testimony" without a "test" .... then this dorky white evangelist guy came over to hug him and say a prayer with him, man it was good stuff ...

Just thought you should know about the following, which happened during President Bush's trip to England (from cnn.com.) ....

A few hours earlier, antiwar demonstrators protesting Bush's trip to London toppled an effigy of him in Trafalgar Square, mocking the toppling of a statue of Saddam Hussein by U.S. troops after they marched into Baghdad back in April.

"Our message is quite simply, 'Go home, Bush,'" said one speaker at the protest, which police said drew between 100,000 and 110,000 people.

Britain is our greatest ally, by the way ....

It's OK if you missed this though, the media's got more important events to tackle, like Diane Sawyer's one-on-one with Britney Spears, and the 24-hour coverage of the Michael Jackson scandal ....

Anyway, here's something almost as outrageous, Black Sabbath were once again snubbed by the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, for the seventh year in a row ... but at least they've got other legendary artists like Jackson Browne, the Dells, Prince, Traffic and the immortal ZZ Top getting inducted this year ... "Criteria considered includes the influence and significance of the artist's contribution to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll," the Hall says ... of course you can hear a little bit of ZZ's "Cheap Sunglasses" all over modern-day music, and Prince has single-handedly influenced a whole generation of gay, bi, transgender and nongender music artists, surely both are more significant than the band that invented heavy metal ...

Speaking of rock and/or roll, check out these incredible sketchings from Peter Criss of the legendary Kiss, they really are remarkable ...

Long time no post ...

Had a very enjoyable weekend up at PSU, Mike, my bro and I drove up Friday night and stayed in Jen's dorm .... we scalped rich alumni tickets for the football game vs. Indiana (they actually won!!), went to a party hosted by my pals Sam and Spruck and saw most of my Collegian friends, hiked Mt. Nittany, and did various other enjoyable things, it was a pretty fun time .... I'll share some pics sometime if Jen posts them ...

Now it's back to work, I gotta go in early for a meeting ... the other day I had to cover a boys soccer game in the freezing cold ... at least I'm makin mad overtime ...

Finally, shout out to Tam Hands and Rita Raisin for makin the weekend so enjoyable ..

Ace in the Hole has captured first place ....

that's right, me and my dad's fantasy football team has moved into first in our division for the very first time, we're also second overall in total points ... it's been a tremendous climb, but we know the work isn't over, still four more weeks until the playoffs ....

Congrats to Don Mattingly, my favorite baseball player of all time, who was recently hired as the Yankees' new batting coach ... I think it's a great move, he was a tremendous hitter and it'll be good to see him back at the Stadium where he belongs ... The Yanks' next mission: re-sign Andy Pettitte!!!!!!!!!

Also congrats to Mark Messier for passing Gordie Howe for the No. 2 spot on the NHL's all-time scoring list ... how about those Rangers? Finally playing like a TEAM, there's once again a glimmer of hope at Madison Square Garden after six dismal years ...
